For my college preferences, I'm trying very hard to eliminate colleges over 5000 students. I also dislike state colleges - I want to go to a small, private university.

I'm wondering if there could be an option for choosing public/private schools, or an option for prioritizing one over the other. It's easy to get public over private - just lower the budget - but not easy to do the opposite.

Also, size of the school matters a lot to me, but not the social makeup so much. I don't want to add more chips to the "Social" bucket in the Priorities setting, because I could really care less about Greek life, sports, and so forth, but I do want to make size (by itself) a high priority.

While I'm here (:P), can there also be an option to eliminate art institutes in the same way we can eliminate military academies?

Would you consider adding viewing options for forum threads? The forums tend to load slowly for me, even though I have a fast connection. I also need to click each separate comment to read it, and it'd tedious. Could you add an option that lets me view an entire thread (or least the first fifteen or so comments) all at once? A bit like expanded comment viewing.

Hi,

Has anyone visited the campuses of schools on their list yet? What was it like? What was the most useful and what was a waste of time? Was it worth the time and money to go there in person?
Thanks for the help,

This is a specific question, but it really needs answering. I understand that the FAFSA goes by the taxes filed the year before the FAFSA is actually filled out. (I fill out my FAFSA in 2010, so I have to use 2009 tax forms). Here's the problem: my father is mentally disabled, so my mother gets money from the government to help raise me (sorta like child support). In 2009, she was still getting that money, but when actually fill out the FAFSA, that money will no longer be coming in. Technically, going by tax forms, I would have to put down that money that was coming in, or can I go around that? It's not fair to put that down, since my EFC would be calculated incorrectly. She is getting less money and by the time summer 2010 comes, we would both be in big trouble! So, is there anyway to get around something like this? If I put down the money that she was getting, it really hurts since we aren't getting that money anymore, but the previous tax year, we were!

AP Test Scores & Admissions (6 replies)

So... here's the question: Does reporting my AP test scores to the colleges I'm applying to affect my chances of being admitted to those schools at all, and if so, how much? I know that I don't /have/ to submit my scores if I don't like them, so basically what I'm asking is if submitting good scores would increase my chances for admissions.

I've only applied to one college so far, and there wasn't any place specifically designated on the application for me to fill in my AP scores. There were, however, a few "additional information" sections were I think I could have put my scores if I'd have wanted to.

I've tried to research this a bit on my own, but there seems to be quite a bit of controversy on the issue, and I haven't come up with any solid evidence one way or the other. If anyone has any "proof" they could give me as to how much weight AP test scores usually receive from the admissions officials, that'd be great. :)
I suggest adding more colleges to the site, though. More than 4 on my list were unable to be found here. Otherwise, great job with the site. College planning has become even easier. I hope the rest of site is up and running soon!
